Loved Ethiopia and the beautiful Ethiopians and especially the close Travelers met! There was Olga a beautiful sweet kind chick as became a very close dear friend with this wonderful friend crazy Russian (dam hope we meet again), Slavco my dear close Aussie/Macdonian weed lovin Mate (love u guy), Stefon an Eastern Canadian dude from Toronto who is prob the opposite of me but grew to become close bud's, Siemon the funny crazy Italian who became a great buddy, Magdelena an adventurous sweet German/Polish traveler who had everything beauty brains and sense of adventure, Hawa a beautiful Somali chick born in Somaliland and raised in England who was a lot of fun, Holly a fun loving American who met by chance but hope to meet again, Kuku a sweet kind Ethiopian who became close to but only as friends but unfortunately she thought different & a cast of 100's. Loved Sheshameme and the Rastafarian Village where Olga and I hung out at the Spicy Caribbean Delight restaurant every afternoon while in Sheshameme (my favorite restaurant and memories in Ethiopia - not sure if it was the restaurant or hanging with my dear friend Olga). Loved Carol the sweet Trinidadian woman who's an awesome friend and cook- yummy! Not crazy about Addis Ababa but met most of my good friends hanging out at Baro Hotel near Piss Alley in the sketchy Piazza area of the city! Will never forget the country and people I met! Great memories! Love u guys!!!
Best memories of Ethiopia was the nice, cool, interesting people hung out with at the Baro Holel and in Sheshememe! Enjoyed the evening before catching an early morning flight out of Ethiopia for Abu Dhabi Shared dinner with some good friends! Thx Salvco, Siemon, Stefon, Magdelena, Hawa (a English Somali who love to tease as she's sweet), Zac, etc. Last but not least is the most awesome fun loving friend I met in Ethiopia as we hung out most of the most time & bonded! Olga my crazy Russian friend as became close after meeting in Sheshememe and again in Addis Ababa! So happy for u Olga as hope your dream trip to get to India works out as planned but why shouldn't it? As I helped u organize things lol!!!! So got to be close with these friends as wtf else is there to do in Addis Ababa! Thx to a couple of u guys for sharing some of your 420 as almost didn't get to the airport!!! But thx to a trained taxi driver made it and then spent 30 mins in security as had to strip down & remove most of my jewellery and clothes! Dam haven't they come across a crazy free spirited idiot before? lol!!!

Got into a bit of shit in Addis Ababa so it became a night mare for me as experienced a real live "Tomyo escapes from Addids Ababa" one night! It's a long story that can tell u over a beer one day! Anyway decided it was time to leave Dodge as got into too much trouble for me there as got boycotted from a few hotels! Ethiopia is fun & interesting but didn't care much for Addis Ababa as just another big African city! But met some real cool fun people that value as good friends!

Wondered if I was a naughty boy in 2011 cuz guess what I won't be celebrating Christmas this year! Cuz am in Ethiopia and Christmas is held on Jan 7. But will be out of Ethiopia at that time! So thought I better clean up my act in 2012!!!

So won't be missing the Christmas & New Years holiday this year but wtf "EVERYDAY'S A HOLIDAY WHEN YOU'RE TRAVELING"

Typical day of traveling espec. in Ethiopia!

1. Wake & Bake aka have a smoke of Ganja

3. Go visit friend for coffee or tea
4. Decide what to do that day
5. Have a smoke
6. Argue with a mini bus driver to take us to a National Park!
7..Take mini bus and putt putt to a National Park!8. Find out the entrance to National Park too expensive

10. Hitch hike in a truck & also a mini bus back to Shashememe
11. Go to Rastafarian Village for a bite to eat at Carol's Spicy Caribbean Delight

Had a new experience as it was another first as hosted a Russian Couch Surfer in my room in Shashememe, Ethiopia. At this time of year what else can a person do but help a fellow CS'ing traveler who is next to broke but let them crash in your room!!! Hell it's not like it's costing me any money or anything!!!!

Dam got refused entry to 2 bars in Addis Ababa for wearing shorts!! Shit been thrown out of a few bars all over the world! But Ethiopia?? Mind u a German guy & I met 2 Couch Surfers at an up scale restaruant they're choice not ours! They didn't serve beer as was a Muslim place! So when they left we went next door to 2 bars for a beer but got refused entry to both places! Shit guess ritszy pretentious places are the same all over the world! Yeah not into fancy glitter places so went back to areas that I can relate to in the cheaper area where we were staying for an enjoyable beer! Seems Couch Surfers in Ethiopia are the rich upscale people wanting to meet people from all over the world to mix and practice their English I guess! Probably didn't expect budget travelers like us lol! But they were nice as Shouted us the dinner plus taxi ride there lol!! Wow that never happens!!!!

Anyway heard there was a Rastafarian Reggae festival here in Sashememe (sort the heartland of the Rastarian movement in Ethiopia)! So caught the last day of festival and enjoyed it! Met a couple of ppl from Trinidad here so may hang out with them today!!

Seemed every second guy here in Addis Ababa (the capital of Ethiopia) was peddling some gunja!! So wasn't sure if I was going to like place???????????????????? Anyway going to this Rasfaraian city Sashamene (think it's the heart pf Rastafarian religion in Ethiopia & maybe world) tomorrow cuz just heard there's a concert going on this weekend! Also would be cool to check out country side there, been in contact with this Couch Surfing chick who is at the concert! Then may try to get visa for Djibouti & Somaliland to check those 2 places out! So should be a hella time here in Ethiopia! Weather isn't too bad either!!!!!

F*ck had the shitty luck with booking & making it on airplane flights on the trip! Cuz on the current trip hell booking flights had been like Murphy’s Law !!!

Likel got to the Budapest airport & found out my online booking hadn’t been made so had to buy a ticket! Then in Kiev I was late for my flight & had to buy another ticket and wait 7 1/1 hrs! That was mostly my own stupidity / fault!!

Then I made an online booking from Istanbul, Turkey to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to Abu Dhabi, UAE and back to Istanbul, Turkey! So thought it was OK but the booking happened to be with Gulf Air so for this cheap flight booking well each sector has a short stopover in Manama, Bahrain where the airline is based!

But then what happened was the airlines told me that I got a slight change in my itinerary from Gulf Air & then I had a 3 DAY STOPOVER in Manama, Bahrain!!!! So emailed Gulf Air to ask them to either book me into a hotel & meals included with them footing the bill cuz it wasn't my change & the Middle East is e$$$pensive! Otherwise wanted them to change my routing to Ethiopia!! But they weren’t replying & I was in Chisinau, Moldova heading for Bucharest, Romania so didn’t have access to a telephone! So u can say I was not a happy camper as who wanted to stay in an airport for 3 days in the Middle East! I had worked in Saudi Arabia & Oman so knew that the airports in the Middle East are crowded with Indian & Pakistani laborers sitting all over the terminal or sleeping on the floor! So where the f*ck was I supposed to sleep? Better yet did I want to sleep in the Bahrain airport? Oh well could always discuss the financial crisis in the US and EU with them instead lol!!!

So spent some time in transit at the Bahrain airport while waiting to go to Dubai to catch a flight to Ethiopia! Gulf Airlines those ass holes had changed my itinerary so I had a 5 day layover in Bahrain on way to Ethiopia! So got 2 couch surfers lined up to host me! But then Gulf Air called me on arrival in Bahrain to tell me they’ll re-route me thru Dubai! Shit why did they wait 2 or 3 wks to tell me! So now don’t have a 5 day layover & don’t need couch surfing hosts! I know in Middle East countries when paper work starts it’s almost impossible to change! So guess will pass on Bahrain and spend more time in Ethiopia where it’s a lot cheaper and things to do outdoors!!! Sure is different here in the Middle East after traveling in Eastern Europe for a while but hey love both places plus love Mother Africa!

So there folks was the latest Dilemma of “What the F*ck is happening to Tom?” Or maybe it should be “What the f*ck is Tom’s latest Predicament?” ! Ah shit still remembered that still had my flight home from Istanbul so hoped the f*ck that didn’t get f8cked up too!!! 

A friend of mine wondered why if I was having problems with the airlines that I couldn’t phone them. So told her that I was in Moldova & they had phones but would have needed to make an international call! So if u think I f*cked up airline tickets well I sucked even more with phone calls probably in Eastern Europe cuz wtf is this + sign before a number? Which is why I stuck to texting & buses as probably only make about 1 actual call a week back home! And doubt if the f*ckin airlines have cell phones to text!!
 

So was  cool to visit Bahrain but hell I wanted to do it on my terms not cuz some f*ckin airlines changes my itinerary on me! Shit if I stayed there for 3 days I’d need a Visa! Also don’t know if u’ve ever spent time in the Middle East but it’s F$CKIN E$PENSIVE! Cuz in my world the magic word is FREE or CHEAP!! Which my stopover in Bahrain wouldn’t be unless I fight for a place to crash in the airport with all the illiterate unskilled laborers waiting for a flight home! So if I had stayed there I had hoped to either couch surf or stay at a hostel! So checked those options out but after I had exhausted hitting up Gulf Air to host me at a hotel with meals! But unfortunately figured I was looking up a dead horse’s ass there!!  

                                                                        
Hell was going to UAE cuz had a free place to crash there cuz it’s more f*ckin E$pensive there! If I stayed in Bahrain would have been cool to also visit Qatar! Then Yemen would have been the only Arab country hadn’t visited on the Arab peninsula!! Had enjoyed the results of Old Soviet countries converting to capitalism in many countries which to me is the only interesting & fun part of Europe! But also love Arab countries cuz can relate to the Bokra (Tomorrow) Insha’allah (God willing) & Ma'alesh (Doesn't matter) attitude to life!! Then was going to check out the Rastafarian movement in Ethiopia & to travel the Ethiopian Highlands if it wasn’t too cool there cuz had enough of the shitty cool weather!

So the reason I travel to those places cuz well my friend those are some of the reasons why I travel to them!!! It’s to check out interesting exotic places (not f*ckin churches, castles, museums & statues) & especially to meet cool interesting people! It’s not to get shit faced in some shit hole city or hostel even though that just happens along the way! So if U can’t figure out why I travel well it’s also to meet awesome people like u! lol Also u wondered my friend could figure out how I could make it around the world when I get lost so often? Well I cut down on my weed & partying intake I guess! But shit Life is all a big adventure & party which we’ll never survive!!!

Then finally heard back from Gulf Air but they weren’t any  f*ckin help so thought screw them & their Customer Service! Could sleep in the Transit Lounge for 3 days with couple hundred illiterate laborers from India, Pakistan & where ever (sorry wasn’t above them but shit I've seen them in airports when worked in Middle East)! Or one of my other friends said that I could put a positive spin on a f*cked up situation (cuz if they dump sour lemon on me well may as well make lemonaide) so was going to Couch Surf in the E$$$$$$pensive Arab country! Gulf Air is no f*ckin help to customers so shit have to help myself! So already had one person who offerred to host me & even pick me up from the airport insha'allah! Also requested a couch from a chick cuz would be cool to experience couch surfing at a chick's place in an Muslim country (for the experience). So hell was going to check out this Muslim country (always bring a gift when I couch surf at someone's place cuz to me as a kind of thank u & exchange) as wtf was  looking at Bahrain as another country to visit on this trip! Cuz seems there are nice, friendly, interesting people in every place u visit on the road of life!

Had the shittiest luck on the trip! In Istanbul was staying at a shitty cold hostel which didn't have a computer that worked! Then mine didn't work either as I accidently knocked my computer off a desk and F*cked up the screen!

I was going to add more wood to the stove to keep the place warm! Yeah the hostel was so f*ckin cold as we only had a wooden stove to keep the room warm! Well thought Budget traveling is like camping in the old west 100 years ago & now it is! Well there were so many cords hanging around that I accidently knocked my computer on the floor and then can’t view the screen! So connected my computer to the desktop monitor! But shit couldn’t carry the monitor around with me traveling or could I?

Anyway when a person travels alone their computer is their best friend except for the nearest bar!! We can access our email, Facebook, update our travel blog, listen & store out music, view and store our pictures, some people watch downloaded movies, etc The guy working at the was like a Mexican mechanic as he figured he could fix the computer screen in a hr if he could get the part! But it was Sat and all the shops were closed till Mon so had to wait a couple days!

So had to get my computer screen repaired so good thing cuz was worried that would be back to spending more $$$ in the bars and clubs getting shitfaced! Oh well done it before so nothing new!!! LOL

Shit everyone has a bad day every so often! Well thanks to the f*ckin airlines booking website eDreams i had one today! Used eDreams as they were the only website I could find that sold multiple destinations tickets from Istanbul - Addis Ababa- Abu Dhabi - Istanbul! (which is cheaper than 3 single one way tickets).

Hell I spent 2 extra days in Budapest just trying to organize plane tickets to fly to Kiev, Ukraine plus ticket to Ethiopia & UAE! The idiots at eDreams had given me a booking confirmation but wouldn’t issue a ticket cuz they were having trouble with the payment (their words not mine)! But they wouldn’t tell me wtf the problem was but did ask me to send them photocopies of my passport plus the front & back side of the credit card used to book my flight (no other flight booking website I used had requested that before)!
So when I got to the airport for my flight I didn’t have a booking or ticket!!! So f*ck had to buy a ticket at the airport if I wanted to go to Kiev! Wasn’t too happy about having to pay for a ticket at the airport but shit happens! But what would really piss me off is if I don’t get a ticket for my multiple destination flight from Istanbul, Ethiopia, UAE back to Istanbul!
 

Also what added to my crappy day was it was dark by the time got to Kiev! So have u ever tried to find your way around a place when u can’t speak or read the language & have to get to a Hostel! Luckily met a Sudanese chick (taking medicine in Ukraine who spoke Russian) on the bus from the airport! But shit the bus from the airport only took us to the train station so this chick tried to help me find the correct city bus to my hostel as Kiev doesn’t have normal running buses! But we had trouble so had to settle for a taxi (usually against my principles but wtf) who charged me double the price! But figure all this was happening cuz was coming down with a f*ckin cold!!!
 

Yeah so all that made for a bit of a shitty day but hell it was really just another adventure & wtf made it to Kiev & my hostel OK which is all that really matters!

So a friend of mine asked me  a) why you never learn, b) how you can travel so much and regard so many places as a shithole, and c) more generally how you manage to get by in life...? Oh, the big mysterious adventure that is your life! 

I told her my definition of Shit hole is pretty general as I think it’s a horrible city in which to live, work or party! That’s my estimation but maybe not yours!

So guess it seems like I regard many places like shit holes ! But really it’s mostly BIG cities in many parts of the world that I think of as shit holes! So I try to either miss or limit my stay in cities like Guatemala City, Managua, San Salvador, Tegucigalpa, Panama City, Jakarta, Nairobi, Cairo, LA, etc, I think of Toronto as one too though I go there cuz have family there but dislike the city!!!

Hell Istanbul is a big crowded city of 10 million which is over crowded, hard to get around but really think it’s a bit of a shit hole too! But I‘m using it as a base on this trip cuz got a cheap ass ticket there! Love Turkey but find Istanbul too big & crowded but it’s a good base to go north to Eastern Europe, south to UAE, Ethiopia & east to Iran, Syria, Iraq & Georgia, etc
Guess I just enjoy smaller cities I visit in most countries. In the Ukraine I find that Odessa is more my kind of city as it’s smaller even it has less things to do than Kiev!!

I guess the worst think about my travel thru the Ukraine is that I couldn’t read Cyrillic script! So to me it’s like difficult to match say a map & street signs to know if they are at the same place! At least with Latin characters I can match words to maps etc even if I can’t pronounce or understand them! I found the same with Japanese characters when I visited Japan which is the home of my ancestors! Btw think Tokyo is a bit of a shit hole too!!

I generally get thru most countries that use Cyrillic, Kanji, Arabic, Thai or Indian characters as been to many countries using those characters ! But when u have a bad head cold, it’s -5 C with a cold wind blowing, u can’t read or understand the language, it’s cark at 4 pm & u don’t know where u;r going! Well it’s hard to form a positive opinion of a place at that time! But hey It’s shitty at the time but makes for a lasting adventure that u think of after u left the shit hole!

But hey I travel cuz it’s about the local people I meet in countries, cool interesting travelers & the crazy wild & maybe even dangerous adventures I encounter along the way! It’s not about seeing churches, statues, museums, etc as they all start to look the same after a while! But it’s the individual characters that one meets that I don’t usually forget!!! I couch surf as much as I can but not to score a free bed to sleep but to meet cool interesting locals to hang with! Hell met some in various cities along the way plus hoping to meet one or two in Moldova & Romania! Cuz to me it’s the people I meet along the way that makes my trip awesome not the sites I saw!!!

In  a previous posting had said we all have a bad day every so often! Well was going to change that to quite often lol! But don’t want to rant & complain as f*ck man I’ve just had another one!!! It’s probably mostly my own fault cuz have a shitty head cold & sore throat! So wanted to leave Kiev cuz it’s a f*ckin Shit Hole (maybe due to being sick & not being able to do anything)! I wanted to go to Odessa by the Black Sea so on the spur of moment decided to go today (Sat) rather than Sun as found a cheap flight! I’d normally take a bus or train but didn’t want to take a 10 hr ride cuz of my bad cold! So woke up this am and scored a sweet priced ticket! Then shit wasn’t thinking as asked the chick working at the hostel how long it’d take to go to the airport as had 2 ½ hr before my flight left! Was going to take a cab but she said oh u can take the city bus to the railway station and then the airport bus in that time! So like a fool I took it instead of a cab duh as shit don’t think she factored in the check-in time at the airport! Cuz my flight was at 2 pm & those 2 buses got me to the airport at 1:40 pm! So guess what the f*ckin check in counter was closed !

So had to pay for another plane ticket (about $90 to change my discount ticket)! That sucked but not as much as having to waiting 7 ½ hrs till 9:30 pm for the next flight (shades of me missing my Munich to Berlin flight last year & having to pay 150 Euros & waiting 4 hrs)! So f*ck ended up sitting in the shitty Kiev airport for 7 ½ hrs & paying $90! All cuz I was too f*ckin cheap to spend on a taxi to the airport to get there on time! Also hell sitting in the airport for that long didn’t do much for my shitty head cold and throat!
Oh the joys of traveling in -5C weather! Boy I’m going to enjoy Ethiopia & UAE in Dec & Jan!! Can’t believe the airport here in Odessa!! U get off the plane and have to wait outside for them to bring u’r bags on a trolley!! So wtf can’t passengers even go inside the terminal at 11 pm in the wind & -5C to get their bags?

Boy & they’re going to Co-Host the Euro 2012 with Poland next year??? Boy they have a lot of work to do! They can start by putting signs up in English, French, German or Spanish! Cuz doubt if any of those people can read Ukranian or Russian!!!!
 

But hey it’s just another crazy adventure - missing my flight in Kiev!!! Figure I'm going to like Odessa better than Kiev!!!

Budget Traveling in many countries is like Camping in the Wild West 100 years ago!! We have to search for food, water & shelter!! OK so we can go to a supermarket for food & water plus usually head to a hostel or couch surf for a bed! But shit usually u can’t speak or read most languages so u use sign language! So u don’t know what food u’r buying/eating even though it won’t poison u! U get off a bus or train in a strange city & have to search for a hostel or where ever in the dark & maybe rain/cold! Hell u have to fight off predators waiting to attack u & if u’r lucky just rob u & other times if u’r lucky u'll just get pick pocketed!! So shit man u have to be on top of your game, be street smart & not hung over or u’ll be f*cked over AKA robbed of your passport, belongings or cash! Yeah I’m talking from past experiences!

An Aussie guy and I came to this conclusion while sitting in our hostel dorm room the other night chillin & having a doobie!! OK so budget travelers have a beer or smoke cuz it’s the reward we treat ourselves to for making it to where ever we set out for! lol
 

OK so then u ask why the fu*ck would anyone want to travel to sketchy, out of the way places? Well we do it for the adventure as it’s like seeing what’s over the next hill or mtn!! Hell these days we have to search for the Wild West in places like Africa, Central Asia, Russia, India, etc! Yeah there are times u may wish u were at home with a cold beer! But shit man life isn’t about sitting in your warm home watching some shit ass TV show, movie or sports! Cuz everyone's life is an adventure but some of us want to add different experiences to get our adrenaline going!!!

So up to this point my trip thru Northern part of Eastern Europe has been sooooo much fun but actually a walk in the park! But now getting prepared for a bit of different adventure as expect a bit of hassles in some sketchy/beaurcratic countries begins! So wish me luck as I enjoy (tho dislike hassles) traveling to countries/places less traveled!

When I was in Prague I ran into a guy (Jan\) who met me in Vancouver at a CS meetup! We randomly in Prague as I posted on CSing “ Traveling for 4 months in Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa! So been lucky to couch surf, stay with a family and staying at cool hostels! All good fun and experiences!  But lately what I've been missing is meeting cool locals to hang out with in a city or place I'm visiting! Well it also helps to be hosted lol! I'm from the city of Chrudim in Eastern Bohemia, but I'm studying here in Prague and I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw your post and the familiar face at our local CS group!! If you'd like to hang out and do stuff, write me back! For example, today, I'm planning to go to Strahov (that's a hill in Prague where is the campus of my university) to Club 007, where one Czech underground rapper, called BONUS, plans to release a brand new album. Also, there will be U.S. group called SOLE AND THE SKYRIDER BAND. I've never heard of them, but at least you wouldn't have to listen to Czech language all night long :P ... The club is quite big, 420 friendly and cheap. But unfortunately, I can't host you here in Prague, because my aunt is at home now ! “

So he came over to my hostel and we hung in my dorm room for a while as I was the only one in the room! So we had a joint and went to this club he mentioned!

Also met a Brazilian chick Cristina in the hostel I was staying in Prague! She left for Vienna so sent her an email tp check if she made it to Vienna OK today! Cuz shit was glad u didn’t come with us to the club last night cuz I got really drunk which would have been bad cuz wanted to spend time with u not getting drunk! If I did anything to make u mad or did something wrong, Well I’m sorry cuz think u are a cool chick so want to stay your friend! It was 430 am and thought shit man have to catch the bus to Budapest at 6 am! So left the Club by myself but didn’t know the way back to the hostel! So thought I would miss the bus but I made it hope OK. Then 5 min later that Brazilian girl came home too! I was so drunk that can’t remember how I got hope! I crawled on the bus and slept for 7 hrs to Budapest! It was a crazy fucking night but was awesome hanging with u so hope I didn’t spoil our friendship cuz I’d be sad if I did! 

I wrote to say I made it to Budapest and had a rough time that day! Cuz I was too hungover to figure out the metro to the hostel! So met a New Zealand couple and said we would split a taxi to downtown! So we got to their hotel and was going to my hostel! But the asshole taxi driver wanted another 10 Euro to drive me there! I was so mad at the driver that told him to fuck off and walked 10 mins to my hostel! That’s the last time I’m going to take a taxi anywhere as all taxi drivers are crooks!!!

Then met my friend (Jasmina) who is staying in Budapest at this hostel tonight! Then tomorrow she leaves for Belgrade Serbia! So will stay at this hostel as it’s cool!
